With the raise in popularity of life coaches and alternative wellbeing professionals, these "Wellbeing Coaching Programs" are commonly floating around social media. Many have come to me recently with questions about coaching.
But today we will focus on what are these coaching programs?
Are they a scam?
A magic cure it all thing?

Let me begin with clarifying what a wellbeing coaching program is
A wellbeing coaching program is a structured, personalised process designed to help individuals improve various aspects of their overall health and life satisfaction. Simple.
A Coaching Program, depending on whoever created it, can combines elements of life coaching, health coaching, and mental health support to provide a holistic approach to wellbeing. The program typically involves working with an accredited wellbeing coach (like me) who guides, motivates, and supports clients in achieving their personal goals related to physical health, mental wellness, emotional balance, and general life satisfaction.
Key Components of a Wellbeing Coaching Program
1. Assessment and Goal Setting
- Initial Assessment: The program usually begins with a comprehensive assessment of the client's current state of wellbeing. Depending on the program and the professional, this first assesment can include a check-up on the physical health, mental and emotional health, lifestyle habits, stress levels, and overall life satisfaction of the coachee/client. When working with me my clients can expect an online self assessment document as part of their coaching induction, before starting with the 1:1 sessions.
- Goal Setting: Based on the assessment, the coach and client collaboratively set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. These goals are tailored to the client's unique needs and aspirations.
2. Personalized Action Plan
- Strategy Development: A coach helps the client develop a personalised action plan to achieve their goals. This plan includes specific strategies and interventions tailored to the client's lifestyle, preferences, and challenges. When working with my approach to coaching, you are always in control. I´ll ask powerful thought provoking questions that will allow you to open your mind, get out of your comfort zone and move ahead in a safe space while also learning more about yourself.
- Resource Provision: Coaches often provide resources such as educational materials, tools, and techniques that support the client's journey. This might include dietary advice, exercise routines, mindfulness practices, and stress management techniques. In my practice as a Wellbeing Coach I offer individual services and different packages with access to additional supporting tools (I´ll give you more details in the end of this post). I tell you this now so you know that sometimes, no coaching journey is the same, but I always try to go the extra mile to avoid gatekeeping resourceful tools and provide my clients with the support they need, especially in times of crisis.
3. Regular Coaching Sessions
- Scheduled Sessions: Clients typically have regular sessions with their coach, which can be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on the program structure. These sessions can be conducted in person, over the phone, or via video conferencing depending on the practitioner agreement and client's preferences.
- Progress Monitoring: When working with my clients, during and in between these sessions, as a coach I will monitor the client's progress, helps them overcome obstacles, and adjusts the action plan as needed. This ongoing support and accountability are crucial for maintaining momentum and achieving goals.
4. Skill Building and Education
- Life Skills: Wellbeing coaching often involves teaching clients essential life skills such as time management, effective communication, and emotional regulation.
- Health Education: Coaches educate clients on topics related to physical health, such as nutrition, exercise, sleep hygiene, and preventive health practices.
5. Behavioral and Cognitive Techniques
- Mindfulness and Stress Management: Coaches may introduce mindfulness practices and stress management techniques to help clients manage anxiety, reduce stress, and improve emotional resilience.
- Cognitive-Behavioral Strategies: Some programs incorporate cognitive-behavioral techniques to help clients change negative thought patterns and behaviors that hinder their progress.
6. Sustainable Habit Formation
- Long-Term Habits: The focus is on creating sustainable, long-term habits rather than quick fixes. Coaches work with clients to embed these new habits into their daily routines, ensuring lasting change.
