My journey of mindful movement led me to try different disciplines from soccer at school, traditional boxing and muay thai after school, pilates, rollerblading, skateboarding, paddle surfing and hiking during my free time.
Did I eventually find yoga… or did yoga find me?
One memory I have from this period of beginning to experience and learn about yoga is feeling extremely embarrassed to go to a local studio where they practiced this age-old discipline. I used to feel anxious of the thought of people thinking I was making a clown of myself. Now I am aware of how silly my thinking was. Afterall, we all start as beginners, and someone more experienced in anything will understand that feeling too.
Anyhow, I started with youtube videos, after being too scared to learn from a IRL class. Slowly I started creating my own sequences and little by little I began to feel something that I did not feel with any of the other disciplines that I had visited before.
Full awareness.
Physical awareness, mental awareness and to my agnostic surprise something I can only describe as a form of spiritual connection (if there's such thing).
I was hooked. Well actually perhaps is better to include some quotes around the "hooked".
The truth is that I had my intermittent periods of physical practice specially with the asanas.
Practicing in studios (eventually it was brave enough to visit one and loved it!), participating in events, sharing many intuitive classes with my besties and exploring different styles of yoga online and in different countries.
All this time in my heart I was AWARE of how the teachings of yoga were impacting my life beyond the mat.
Yoga has given me:
Patience with myself and others
More compassion and empathy
Focus on what I want in my life and what I want to let go of.
Awaken the creative bug inside of me
It has strengthened me physically and mentally
Increased my flexibility while helping me keep my body safe and injury free
A magical connection with my inner fire
Yoga has stripped me of:
Fears
Some limiting beliefs
Habits that were no longer aligned with my intention
Then, almost 6 years after my first yogi experience, I began to educate myself "formally"
More than anything for my personal practice and to be able to use certain yoga teachings as holistic tools for my Wellness and Transformation Coaching clients.
And now without forcing it, almost without realizing it, I have the honor of teaching yoga and continuing to learn alongside human beings with beautiful hearts in different parts of the world.
But watch out, allow myself to return to the main theme of this blog #ConsciousMovement
I found a way to consciously connect and move my body through yoga, but there are many other ways to make that connection (not just doing yoga) that depends on each one of us.
I invite you to think, to ask yourself:
What does moving consciously and mindfully mean to you?
I hope you have a chance to give yourself a few moments to consider your answer.
Meanwhile, I send you a hug and I remind you that you are welcome to practice yoga!
If you want to learn to move consciously through yoga, I will be happy to help you! I offer classes with an open heart, full of mindfulness and compassion in English and Spanish for first-timers and more experienced students. For more information I invite you to review the packages on my website or schedule exploration call to find out what you are looking for and help you. Un abrazo
