A Gentle Guide to Irrational Beliefs

Somewhere between your childhood dreams and today’s to-do list, you may have picked up beliefs that aren’t really yours.

Beliefs that sound like:
“I should be further along.”“This mustn’t happen.”“I can’t cope with this.”“I failed, therefore... I am a failure.”
They sneak in quietly, often disguised as truth. But here’s the thing: just because a belief has been sitting in the attic of your mind for years doesn’t mean it belongs there.
These are what we call irrational beliefs—and darling, they’re often the root of the frustration, fear, and emotional spirals you can’t quite explain. The good news? You can learn to spot them, soften them, and gently choose something new.

Let’s explore.
🌬️ Meet the 4 Most Common Irrational Beliefs (and Their Rewrites)
1. Demandingness
The voice that insists,“I must get this right.
“They should treat me better.”
“Life should be easier.”
It’s rigid. Controlling. A little exhausting.
🕊️ Try this instead:
“People make mistakes, including me. Perfection is a myth, I choose presence instead.”
This is where coaching steps in—meeting your inner critic, not with resistance, but with curiosity.
2. Awfulizing / Catastrophizing
The mind drama:
“This is the worst. I’ll never recover.”
It’s like your brain put on a Shakespearean cloak and is performing nightly tragedies.
🌤️ Try this instead:
“Hard things happen. But joy isn’t gone forever. I’ve survived before, and I’m still breathing.”
In NLP, we gently rewire these mental loops, teaching your system to respond rather than react.
3. Frustration Intolerance
The tension:
“I can’t stand this. I need it to stop.”
The body tightens. The jaw clenches. You feel caged.
🌿 Try this instead:
“This isn’t ideal… and I can handle it. I trust my nervous system to recalibrate.”
This is where holosomatic bodywork shines—restoring your relationship with sensation, safety, and breath.
4. Global Evaluation of Worth
The sting:
“I messed up. That means I am a mess.”
“They failed me. So they’re bad.”
It's all-or-nothing thinking with no space for humanity.
💛 Try this instead:“I can make mistakes without being one. Others can hurt me and still be growing.”
Through hypnotherapy, we soften these deep-rooted scripts and create space for grace, forgiveness, and choice.
✍️ Ready to Gently Challenge Your Inner Narrative?
Here’s a little framework I really like (and use often in sessions):
The ABCs of Self-Inquiry
A — Activating event:
Ask yourself: What happened? What triggered the swirl?
B — Beliefs:
Ask yourself: What meaning did I give it?Do I know that’s true—or just believe it?
C — Consequences:
Ask yourself: How did I feel or react? Was it helpful? Honest? Necessary?
✨ Sometimes awareness is enough to spark change.✨
Other times, you need support to really embark in a journey with the possibility to start the shift.
Let’s Make Space for the Most Authentic You
You don’t have to decode these inner patterns alone. If you’re ready to stop looping and start living, I’d be honoured to walk alongside you.
My 1:1 sessions are a safe space to:
Untangle outdated beliefs through intuitive coaching
Reprogram your responses through NLP and hypnotherapy
Release stored tension through holosomatic bodywork
Remember your truth, one loving breath at a time
This can be deep work and at the same time joyful, playful, and surprisingly light when done in the right container.
🌀 Let’s begin with an Exploration Call—a gentle, no-pressure space to feel into whether we’re a fit.Together, we’ll explore where you are, what’s calling for your attention, and how you want to feel.
Because it’s not just about clearing the clutter…It’s about coming home to yourself.
With love,
