6 Tips for a Healthy Lifestyle during a crisis

There could be some aspects of your life undermining your success.

There's never been a best time to take care of our own balance and health. That's probably why one common of the most goals my clients have in mind for our sessions spins around: “creating a healthier lifestyle”.

What often we don’t realize is that this apparent straight forward goal could involve a holistic approach, a more integral process.

{ How? Why? }

Well, it involves training and improving our minds and bodies, feeding them the right ingredients and supplements but at the same time, we should also consider our energy fields and the way perturbances or imbalance in these fields can affect the way we think, feel and perform.

How can I keep my energy fields balanced? How can I work through these mental and emotional blocks so I can create a healthier lifestyle?

Here are 6 tips that will help you to unlock your mind, and set yourself to move you closer to a healthier lifestyle:

1. Consider your emotional, spiritual, psychological and physical self in your plan. Include those four areas and get ahead of potential obstacles like: food allergies, depression, hormonal imbalances, clinical diagnoses, personal or professional situations and more. Knowing what you don’t know and being aware of your obstacles will set yourself for the success you want.

2. Keep your goal positive by keeping an eye on the prize. “The prize” is the goal. But it is hard to imagine something that sounds negative as a reward. When you visualize your goal PLEASE try to phrase it in a positive/winning situation. For example, you want to lose weight, focus on the thing you will gain by losing weight… and sure this has a different meaning for everyone but for some of my clients losing weight means they have a daily self-care practice and this translates as more confidence. Focus on gaining more confidence/having a self-care practice, by changing your focus, then “losing weight” will be a result of your vision.

3. Find what feels good for you and that works for you. Remember, there’s no magic formula or diet or fitness routine that works on everyone. If you find something you like you will be more likely to keep doing it and if you are constant, results will follow. Also, look for something that fits with your individual needs. Regarding food and nutrition let me tell you I really hate diets. The whole diet culture is really unhealthy and dangerous. What really works for me is listening to my body needs, asking myself is this a sweet tooth moment or am I thirsty? and aligning those needs with my beliefs. With exercising it took me a while to find something that works for me when I was younger I loved doing squats, but due to a injury I can’t do many of them without feeling a lot of pain on my right knee, which has made me explore other movements and modifications in order to work out those areas of my body. In other words, find what feels good for your soul and body, give yourself the chance to heal your relationship with fitness and food. Research, experiment and have fun.

4. Focus on the present. Getting to a certain weight or muscle mass can be frustrating. Especially when it seems so far away. It can even demotivate you from keep working on yourself. Perhaps if you are finding yourself in this situation focus on TODAY. Take good care of your body, mind and soul today. Live day by day without worrying that you are not at the end of your journey yet. By doing this you prevent more negative self-talk while helping you stay focused and present with what really matters because all we really have is TODAY!

5. Stop comparing yourself. Your process is unique, beautiful and it is not worst or better than anyone else. Instagram influencers or public figures showing their lives and bodies, making us feel guilty because we are not balanced enough, flexible enough, or happy enough. Remember, regular media and social media are full of (Excuse my language) bullshit. The most practical advice for this is: go and watch a few videos on Youtube, look for something like “perfect picture editing tutorial” or “perfect IG Stories tips” and you will understand why (and how) the media is full of unrealistic body standards (spoiler alert they are call unrealistic because they are not real!).

6. Give yourself permission to take a break. Whatever that means for you. I like to take some resting days in between workouts, a day where I buy my favourite big bag of crisps, or a few hours of my latest favourite show on Netflix.
